Wes grew up in Rocky Gap, Virginia in an old farm house on about 16 acres. The area is rural and small with less than 20 people in his high school graduating class.
All his siblings were much older and had left home by the time Wes was six years old, so it was just him and his Mom growing up, which helped shape who Wes would become. He was smart without being pretentious. Nonjudgmental without compromising his principles. Mischievous without being mean. And most importantly, he was kind.
After high school, Wes moved to Knoxville to attend college. This is where he really came into his own and made lots and lots of friends. Wes and his husband Jeff raised five cats in their 26 years together. Wes loved all animals, especially cats. He would be very happy to know his love for animals continues through the foundation.
